Rongrong Zhuge
I am interested in cultural and political sociology, gender studies, and graphic design. My current research is about the entangled interactions and power dynamics between fan groups and the nation-state in Mainland China. Since the political and entertainment spheres are gradually permeating into each other, a special culture which I termed “politicized fandom” has arisen there. By exploring this phenomenon, I want to reflect on not only the relationship between popular culture and politics, but also the formation process of our own national identity.

政治社会学、ジェンダー学、グラフィックデザインに興味を持っています。ファングループと中国の国民国家との間の絡み合った相互作用と権力のダイナミクスについて研究しています。政治と芸能の領域が徐々に浸透し、そこに私が「政治化されたファンダム」と名付けた特別な文化が生まれました。この現象を探求することで、大衆文化と政治の関係だけでなく、私たち自身の国民的アイデンティティの形成過程についても考察したいと思います。
Alyssa Castillo Yap
Alyssa is a Master’s student at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. She is from the Philippines, and lived in Vietnam for 7 years. She graduated from University of Tokyo’s PEAK Japan in East Asia Program in 2022. Her undergraduate thesis was titled “Queering spatial awareness in post-pandemic Tokyo: Micro-level Counter-narratives in Shinjuku Ni-chome.” She tutors privately for English literature and theory of knowledge subjects in high school. Her latest research interests are on queer orientations and spaces in Tokyo, finding linkages between AI, literature (especially speculative fiction), the built environment and how they can be used to disrupt oppressive systems.
アリッサ カスティロ ヤップ
東京大学大学院学際情報学府在籍のアジア情報社会コース修士一年生。フィリピン出身ですが、ベトナムに7年間住んでいました。2022年に東京大学のPEAK Japan in East Asia Programを卒業しました。 学部の論文のタイトルは、「Queering spatial awareness in post-pandemic Tokyo: Micro-level Counter-narratives in Shinjuku Ni-chome」でした。 現在、知識理論や英文学などのトピックで高校生を個人的に指導しています。彼女の研究関心は、東京における「クィア・オリエンテーション」と「クィア・スペース」で、AI、文学（特にSF）、人間が構築された環境との間の関連性と、それらが抑圧的なシステムを破壊するためにどのように使用されるかを見つけることです。
Flavia Feijo
My research field is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary. As an immigrant myself, I have used a sociolinguistic approach to study the Brazilian Community in Japan for the past ten years, focusing on identity formation and second language acquisition. My current research interests are centered on fashion and media, with a particular focus on the role of dress in contemporary Japanese society and fashion subcultural identities. I am also conducting joint research on English education, with a focus on the importance of a Global English-based ideology and issues in English education in Japanese universities.

私の研究分野は学際的です。日本に在住するブラジル人であり、移民の女性として、在日ブラジル人コミュニティに興味があり、研究してきました。修士論文では、質的と量的な視点から、在日ブラジル人コミュニティにおける言語維持を研究しました。民族誌的アンケート調査とインタビューを用い、在日ブラジル人の言語能力と言語使用を分析しました。博士課程に進んでからは、主に日本の広告におけるマイノリティグループのイメージ・アイデンティティについて研究しています。４歳からバレエをやっています。現在、文京学院大学・経営学部の助教もしています。
Yasha Lai
Yasha received her Master of Arts and Sciences from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies in 2023, after completing the Information, Technology, and Society in Asia (ITASIA) Program and graduating as department representative. Her thesis, titled “Making Japanese Pottery: Cultural Making and Material Culture in a Transnational Age”, took on an anthropological approach to investigating Japanese pottery as polysemic material-discursive making projects of aesthetic and ethical curation that create hopeful hybrid third spaces. She is currently a full-time civil servant in Singapore, but dabbles with various kinds of materials and makings in her free time and hopes to continue investigating and exploring material cultures.

ITASIAプログラムを学科代表で終了し、学際情報学府大学院で学際情報科学修士号を取得しました。 「日本の陶器の製作：国境を越えた時代における文化的製作と物質文化」というテーマで執筆した修士論文では、人類学的アプローチを採用し、ハイブリッドな第三の空間を生み出す美的および倫理的な展観の多義的・物質的・言説的製作として日本の陶器についてまとめました。 現在、シンガポールで公務員（フルタイム）をしていますが、プライベートではさまざまな種類の素材や作品と関わりながら、物質文化の研究と探索を続けたいと考えています。
Lexa Kai Brieck
Lexa Brieck is a Master’s Student at Keio University Graduate School of Media Design and a member of the Future Crafts lab, researching sustainable fabrication for STEAM education. She received her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Tokyo and completed her undergraduate thesis, titled “Unheard Voices of Amami Islanders: Identity and Indigenous Rights,” under the supervision of Professor Yuko Itatsu.

慶應大学大学院メディアデザイン研究科の修士課程学生で、Future Craftsプロジェクトの一員としてSTEAM教育に向けた持続可能な製作について研究しています。東京大学で学士号を取得し、板津木綿子先生の指導のもと「奄美大島島民の知られざる声：アイデンティティと先住民の権利」というタイトルで卒業論文を執筆した。
Sakura Takeda Davis
After completing her thesis on Womenomics (“Gender Inequality in Japan: Problematizing the Discourse of Womenomics Through Three Case Studies”), Sakura graduated from UTokyo in 2022. She now works in Global Operations at Qualtrics, a technology platform used by organizations to collect and act on experience data.

女性経済学の分野で「日本におけるジェンダー不平等：３つのケーススタディから見る女性経済学のディスコースへの問題提起」というテーマで卒業論文を執筆後、2022年に東京大学を卒業した。現在はクアルトリクスのグローバルオペレーションで勤務している。
Chloe Anastasia Lim
Chloe received her Masters of Arts in Global Society from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo in September 2021. As a sociolinguist, her research interests lie in gender and sexuality, class and race, as well as translations (mainly between English and Japanese). Her Master’s thesis, titled “The Impact of Japanese Language Ideology on English to Japanese Translations: A Critical Discourse Analysis of the Sitcom Friends”, analysed the impacts of Japanese gender ideology on English to Japanese translations. Although she has since transitioned into the corporate world and currently works as a Business Analyst at Rakuten, Chloe still enjoys being involved in academia and keeps herself up-to-date about research in the field of linguistics.

2021年9月に東京大学総合文化研究科（国際人材養成プログラム）で修士課程を取得しました。社会言語学の研究者として、ジェンダーやセクシャリティ、階級や人種だけではなく英語と日本語の翻訳にも研究の関心を持っています。修士論文研究では「英日翻訳における日本語のイデオロギーの影響：ホームドラマ「フレンズ」の批判的談話分析」というタイトルのもと、英日翻訳における日本のジェンダーイデオロギーの影響について分析しました。現在は学問から企業の世界に移行し、楽天でビジネスアナリストとして働いていますが、アカデミアの世界に関心を持ち続けています。
Angeli Machida (Rambukpota)
Angeli graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2019 after completing her thesis on “Masked Political Activism in Contemporary Japanese Food Discourse”, which won an award for Outstanding Thesis in her graduating class. She now works as a Technology Consulting Analyst at Accenture, a management consulting firm specializing in information technology, strategy and innovation.

「現代の日本の食をめぐるディスコースにある隠された政治的アクティビズム」（優秀論文賞を受賞）というテーマで論文を書いた後、2019年に東京大学を卒業しました。現在は情報テクノロジー、戦略やイノベーションに特化したコンサルティング会社アクセンチュアでテクノロジーコンサルティングアナリストとして勤務しています。
Shafaat Ukishima
“My name is Shafaat and I graduated from the University of Tokyo in August 2021. Inspired by my mixed Japanese-Ghanaian heritage, and the shared experiences and stories within the “Blasian” community, I wrote my senior thesis titled “Blasian is Beautiful: Perceptions of Beauty, Agency, and Shifting Ideals in Mixed African-Asian Women”. Through this research I had the incredible opportunity to work with Professor Itatsu and also won the PEAK Award for Academic Excellence for submitting the best thesis in my program. I am passionate about Education and currently I work in a bilingual international school in Tokyo as an early childhood educator. From fall 2022, I will be pursuing a Master of Education in Education Leadership, Organizations and Entrepreneurship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In the future I want to help organizations design and develop schools in Africa as well as establish my very own school in Ghana.”

東京大学を2021年8月に卒業しました。自身の日本とガーナのルーツとブラジアンコミュニティでの経験やストーリーに影響を受け、「ブラジリアンは美しい：美と主体の認識とアフリカ系アジア人女性の理想像の変革」というテーマで卒業論文を執筆しました。この研究を通して板津先生とご一緒できる素晴らしい機会を得ただけではなく、PEAKのプログラムから賞を頂くことができました。私は教育に意欲を持ち、現在は東京のインターナショナルスクールで早期教育に携わっています。2022年秋からはハーバード大学教育大学院で教育学の修士課程の道に進む予定です。将来は、アフリカの学校を発展させる期間の力になりたいだけではなく、ガーナで自身の学校を立ち上げたいと思っています。
