Lab member Clarise ONG Chia Yee will present at Sophia Symposium 2026 “Migration in the Age of AI: Work, Education and Belonging,” organised by Sophia University’s Institute of Comparative Culture. The symposium will take place from 3rd to 4th October 2026 at Room 1702, Building 2, Sophia University. 

She will give a presentation entitled “Byte-Sized Love? Digital Companionship, Care, and Constrained Intimacy among Migrants in Japan.” Her conceptual presentation examines migration and the use of companion technology in Japan, synthesising interdisciplinary literature to introduce a new framework, “constrained intimacy,” developed to analyse how structural conditions may shape migrants’ emotional connection and companionship, and to guide future research into how migrants themselves narrate these experiences. Practical suggestions are also offered for future research and methods which can be used to study this burgeoning area.

研究室メンバーのClarise ONG Chia Yee氏が、上智大学比較文化研究所主催のシンポジウム「Sophia Symposium 2026: Migration in the Age of AI: Work, Education and Belonging(AI時代における移住 ― 労働・教育・帰属)」にて発表を行います。本シンポジウムは2026年10月3日から4日にかけて、上智大学2号館1702教室にて開催されます。

発表タイトルは「Byte-Sized Love? Digital Companionship, Care, and Constrained Intimacy among Migrants in Japan(バイトサイズの愛?日本における移住者のデジタル・コンパニオンシップ、ケア、そして制約された親密性)」です。本発表は、日本における移住とコンパニオン技術の利用について考察する概念的研究であり、学際的な先行研究を統合することで、「制約された親密性」という新たな枠組みを提示します。この枠組みは、構造的条件が移住者の感情的つながりやコンパニオンシップにどのような影響を及ぼしうるかを分析するとともに、移住者自身がこれらの経験をどのように語るかについて、今後の研究の指針となることを目的としています。あわせて、この発展途上の研究領域を探究するための今後の研究課題や方法についても、実践的な提案が示されています。
